The moment that took Miranda Kerr from a country town girl to a global icon and Australia's first Victoria's Secret Angel
EXCLUSIVE -- I'll never forget the moment when I watched Aussie supermodel Miranda Kerr walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time on TV.It was 20 years ago that the former Dolly Magazine model search winner made her runway debut for the lingerie giant, and it was 2007 when she officially became an 'Angel' for the brand – the first and only Australian model so far to do so.Being a girl from the country town of Gunnedah, NSW, Kerr's success on the world stage came with much Aussie fanfare as she rose to the top of the modelling industry and represented the country on the world stage. Watch the videos above. As we connect over Zoom to talk about her new jewellery collection with Michael Hill, I can't help but fangirl over the supermodel, 42.Yet Kerr remains as humble and as sweet as ever and happily indulged me as I eagerly relayed my memories of her storming that runway all those years ago."That is so sweet. Thank you," Kerr says, ever so gracefully.READ MORE: Aussie radio star reveals affair before husband's suicideREAD MORE: How Bobby Cannavale became Rose Byrne's rockREAD MORE: The career moment that changed Aussie model Shanina Shaik's life"It's really lovely to hear that perspective, you know? To hear your support, it means a lot to me – so thank you so much."Obviously, looking back, I just feel incredibly grateful for that experience."It's something I never could have dreamed of. Coming from a small country town like Gunnedah to representing Australia on a global stage felt completely surreal at the time."I really embraced the experience and I'm so grateful for it. Victoria's Secret opened doors for me globally, providing a platform beyond anything I ever imagined."During her time walking for the lingerie giant, she wore the 2011 Fantasy Treasure bra, worth about $3.5 million. While she obviously didn't get to keep the extravagant lingerie, the money she made from Victoria's Secret helped her go on to launch her own wellness brand, KORA Organics."It definitely accelerated things and that platform gave me a voice and an opportunity to use that voice," she adds."It gave me a platform to talk about health and wellness, which is so important to me. That really helped launch KORA Organics; I actually used the money I'd saved from my modelling career to self-fund the business.""I really have so much gratitude in my heart for that moment and it's been such an incredible journey."Speaking about how she stays grounded, Kerr says it is in part meditation, the impact of her grandmother on her life and her "humble" beginnings in Gunnedah."Meditation for sure. I was obviously raised in a little country town in Australia, which was very grounding, where I come from, very humble beginnings," she says."I'm sure people know that my grandma was such a big influence on me, and I would sit with her. And I would talk to her."She very much influenced my life in such a positive way, in that I would talk to her about God, she would read the Bible to me, and she incorporated prayer in my life, and so I've had that as such a grounding force in my life; the power of gratitude and prayer."We meet to discuss Kerr's new AMOUR; The Miranda Kerr Collection with jewellery brand Michael Hill, of which she is a brand ambassador. The collection was inspired by Paris and features heart motifs and stylish pieces including tennis bracelets, necklaces, earrings and rings, with prices starting from $299."It was designed with so much love and intention," Kerr tells nine.com.au."And the heart is something that I feel deeply connected to, for instance, with my skincare line, all the products are filtered through rose quartz crystals. Which is the stone for the heart."I'm just a heart-centred person, so when I approached Michael Hill, I said, 'I would love to design a collection that's basically from my heart to yours.'""The heart really represents connection, and gratitude, and love, and those things that matter the most in life, it celebrates love in all its form. Like, romantic love, of course, and self love, family love, and friendship love."It's so timeless, and it's understood universally and I wanted to interpret that in a fresh, modern way, and I wanted the pieces to feel meaningful, but also effortless enough to wear every day."For a daily dose of 9honey, subscribe to our newsletter here.Kerr is a doting mother to four boys. There's Flynn, 15, whom she shares with actor ex-husband and The Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom, 49, and Hart, seven, Myles, six, and Pierre, two, with husband Evan Spiegel, 35, the CEO and co-founder of Snap Inc."I love being a mother. It's really something I value and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to have these wonderful boys as my sons.""It's pretty amazing to think that I walked the runway while I was pregnant with Flynn in Paris; Before I was pregnant with Flynn, while I was pregnant with Flynn, and after I gave birth to Flynn," she says."So it definitely holds a special place in my heart.""Evan and I found out that I was pregnant with Pierre when we were in Paris. And Pierre just celebrated his second birthday," she sweetly adds, saying he's like a "baby buddha".On the topic of motherhood and parenting, Kerr says she takes great joy in "seeing the world through their eyes"."Being a mum really reminds you every moment of what's the most important, and they keep everything in perspective," she says."I just love seeing the world through their eyes, just seeing that wonder, and that curiosity, that is so alive within each of them, and how each of their brains works so differently."Even though they're all four boys, and they're raised in very similar environments, they all see the world in a different way. I find that, absolutely inspiring and incredible."She even remarks how she can't believe she is a mother to a teenager."I can't believe I have a 15 year old," she says."It really, it just reminds you how important it is to be in the moment, because life does go by so fast."Everyday, you're learning and growing as a parent, and it's a constant journey that we learn and grow every day, that's a big lesson too."I love being a mother. It's really something I value and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to have these wonderful boys as my sons."FOLLOW US ON WHATSAPP HERE: Stay across all the latest in celebrity, lifestyle and opinion via our WhatsApp channel.
