Much-loved Aussie radio host and comedian Em Rusciano has revealed she has been hospitalised with a rare and potentially life-threatening medical condition.Rusciano, a mother-of-three, made the revelation in a series of slides added to her Instagram Story on Monday."Story time," she wrote across the first image, which featured a view of her room at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne and a drip.Want the official inside scoop on MAFS, unfiltered and unseen? Treatment usually involves hospitalisation.Rusciano said in her post that her muscles, in her case her biceps, got so damaged "they started leaking into my blood"."Those cells are in turn putting my kidneys under pressure, so they're flushing me aggressively with IV fluids," she wrote."I have to have my wee measured every hour."For a daily dose of 9honey, subscribe to our newsletter here.Rusciano revealed she got the condition after "I essentially went too hard at the gym and have caused some muscle death. As one does"."My creatinine numbers were 45,000, and normal is below 5000," she wrote.She added she had been besieged by doctors while in hospital because the condition was so rare "they've not seen this happen to someone like me ever"."I'm like a new zoo exhibit,' she wrote.She also revealed "pull-ups" were to blame."My biceps are still pretty swollen and I can't straighten my arms yet," she wrote, and added her levels of creatine kinase (CK) were still very high."My CK numbers are still in the 20,000s. Normal numbers are 500," she said."Creatine kinase (CK) is an enzyme found in heart, brain and skeletal muscles, with elevated levels indicating muscle damage, disease or strain."Despite the severity of her situation, Rusciano managed to find a lighter side to her hospital stay, revealing that her male room mate was "shaving in his bed", adding "Sir. No".It has been a difficult few years for Rusciano, who revealed in 2024 she had separated from her husband Scott Burrow.
