Country singing superstar Dolly Parton has cancelled her six-show residency in Las Vegas, due to take place later this year, amid ongoing health concerns. The 9 to 5 and Jolene singer, 80, took to Instagram overnight to announce she would not be proceeding with the six shows, which had already been postponed once, due to take place in September.Parton took to Instagram with a long video that contained a health update delivered in her usual tongue-in-cheek style.Watch the video above."Well, hey there it's Dolly and I am here to give you an update on a few things going on in my life," she said."First, it's concerning my health and I have some good news and a little bad news."The good news is, I'm responding really well to meds and treatments, and I'm improving every day.READ MORE: Star couple announce birth of third childREAD MORE: Why Bindi skipped the annual Steve Irwin Gala againREAD MORE: Rebel Wilson welcomes second child during court battle"Now the bad news is, it's gonna take me a little while before I'm up to stage performance-levels because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit 'swimmy headed', as my grandma used to say," she continued."And of course, I can't be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels... Not to mention all those heavy rhinestone outfits, the big hair, my big... err personality."But just think of me as like an old classic car that, once restored, can be better than ever."Keeping with the car analogy, Parton said she needed to "rebuild my engine" before she could take to the stage again. She also shed new light on the illnesses she has been battling since last year. While she said she had long suffered from kidney stones, "my immune system and my digestive system got all out of whack over the past... couple of years", before adding her doctors were "working really hard on rebuilding and strengthening those"."I have great doctors and I'm doing really well, and they assure me that everything I have is treatable, so I'm going with that."Parton said she was deliberately keeping the announcement "light and airy" because "a happy heart is like good medicine".She also said she was still working, despite her ill health."I still do videos, I still record, I run up and down to Dollywood now and then, and I'm working hard on getting my museum and my hotel open in Nashville later this year," she said.Parton said she was "writing and reworking" the Broadway musical about her life, which was due to open in coming months, and thanked fans for their support following the death of her husband of almost 60 years, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025."A lot of you have been concerned about me and Carl, and you were so great about that... but you would be surprised at how much your love and concern meant to me during that time," she said."So, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. You have been a big part of my healing."Parton had originally been due to perform the Las Vegas shows in December 2025 but they were postponed two months earlier. At the time, fans became alarmed after Parton's sister Freida asked fans to pray for the star.Parton said she was "truly sorry that I am going to miss all of you that had tickets to see me in Las Vegas", and thanked her fans for "standing by me", before ending the video with a reference to one of her most famous songs."I will always love you," she said. Parton uploaded the video along with the comment, "Thank you for standing by me and showing me so much love and support over the past year. I've still got some healing to do, but I am on my way! See you soon".Parton is one of the most successful musical artists of all time, having recorded 50 albums during a career spanning almost 60 years, and selling more than 100 million records worldwide. She is also a prolific songwriter and famously wrote two of her biggest hits, Jolene, and I Will Always Love You – which later became a huge hit for Whitney Houston – on the same day.She amassed a fortune totalling more than $1 billion during her long career, which included creating her own fragrance line, and investing in a theme park in Tennessee that she renamed Dollywood.FOLLOW US ON WHATSAPP HERE: Stay across all the latest in celebrity, lifestyle and opinion via our WhatsApp channel.
