Coffee with Noubikko - About Prague, The City That Never Lets You Go
Noubikko reflects on the haunting beauty of a city that remains in the heart long after the journey ends. Prague possesses something more difficult to define: a quiet, almost mysterious hold on the human spirit.
PRAGUE, Czech Republic — Some cities entertain you. Others impress you. But Prague does something far more powerful—it becomes part of you.
With its Gothic spires rising above red rooftops, magnificent Baroque palaces, ancient bridges and cobblestone streets polished by centuries of footsteps, Prague has long been regarded as one of Europe’s most enchanting cities. Yet its beauty alone does not explain why so many people feel compelled to return.
Franz Kafka, whose life and literary imagination were inseparable from the city, is often credited with expressing Prague’s emotional power: “Prague is a city that one can never leave, and of which one never can escape.”
For fashion designer, Noubikko, those words continue to resonate with modern travelers.
“Prague does not simply give you memories,” Noubikko said. “It leaves you with a feeling that your story there is not yet finished.”
When Noubikko first arrived in Prague in 2004 and saw the city before him, his first words were simple and instinctive:
“Oh my God, I’m home.”
It was not a carefully prepared statement. It was the immediate reaction of someone who felt an unexpected sense of belonging in a place he had only just discovered.
Over the years, Noubikko often shared his own reflection about the city with friends and visitors:
“If Paris is the City of Love, then Prague is the Romantic City.”, Noubikko's signature quote.
Paris may be celebrated for romance, but Prague seems to carry romance in its very atmosphere—in the mist rising over the Vltava River, the statues watching silently from Charles Bridge, the bells echoing across Old Town Square and the narrow streets that appear to be keeping centuries of secrets.
Prague Castle stands above the city with quiet grandeur. The astronomical clock continues its ancient performance. Cafés invite long conversations, while hidden courtyards and dimly lit passageways make even an ordinary walk feel like the beginning of a story.
But the true magic of Prague is not found only in its monuments. It is found in the emotions the city awakens.
“Prague reminds us that beauty does not always need to shout,” Noubikko said. “Sometimes it only needs to wait quietly until we are ready to notice it.”
For travelers, Prague may begin as another destination on a European itinerary. But after walking through its streets, watching the sunset from the castle district or crossing Charles Bridge before the city fully awakens, many discover that leaving Prague is not quite the same as escaping it.
The city follows them home.
Its beauty returns unexpectedly—in a photograph, a piece of music, the sound of church bells or the memory of a quiet evening beside the river.
That is why Noubikko offers a modern reflection inspired by Kafka’s enduring sentiment:
“Come and see Prague once, and you may never rest until you return.”
Prague is more than a beautiful city. It is a conversation between history and imagination, between memory and longing. It welcomes the traveler, touches the soul and then quietly waits for the day that traveler comes home again.
Because some cities are places we visit.
But, Prague is a city that never truly lets us go.
