Dog the Bounty Hunter's stepson arrested after tragic accidental shooting of his son, 13
The stepson of reality TV star Dog the Bounty Hunter has been arrested and charged after accidentally shooting his own 13-year-old son last year.Gregory Zecca was arrested on February 4 over the July 19 incident in Florida on a Collier County Sheriff's Office warrant, the department confirmed in a social media post.After a police investigation, Zecca, 39, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence, according to local Florida authorities.The aggravated manslaughter charge has a potential sentence of life in prison.The Coillier County Sheriff's office said that Zecca was watching a UFC fight with his son at a friend's house when he "handled a firearm in the child's presence, practising drawing it from his waistband and dry-firing."The statement goes on to say the gun had initially been rendered safe as the magazine had been removed; however, at some point, it was re-armed.Police alleged "at some point, the magazine was reinserted and a round chambered, and Zecca discharged a single shot, fatally striking the child."READ MORE: Eric Dane's ex gives a sad update amid ongoing health battleREAD MORE: Bachelor star expecting twins after three miscarriagesREAD MORE: Channing Tatum shares photos from hospital bed before surgery"This was a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy," Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said in a press release."Our detectives conducted an exhaustive and thorough investigation, examining every element of what happened through witness statements, forensic testing, subpoenas, search warrants, and more."I commend their hard work and professionalism in uncovering the facts in an incredibly difficult case."On arrival, police saw marijuana at the residence, and Zecca blew a 0.116 on a breath test.The legal limit to use a gun while under the influence in Florida is 0.08, police added."This case underscores the devastating tragedy that can result from mixing firearms, alcohol and drugs," Sheriff Kevin Rambosk added."Our hearts are with everyone affected by this loss."Duane Lee Chapman, who rose to fame as Dog the Bounty Hunter in the reality series of the same name, is married to Francie, who is the mother of Zecca from a previous marriage."We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible, tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony," a representative for the couple told TMZ at the time of the shooting.Francie and Chapman tied the knot back in 2021, after each of their spouses passed away.They said they bonded over their shared grief of losing partners to cancer.Zecca will appear for an arraignment March 2, authorities told E!
