The Princess of Wales is recovering from major abdominal surgery and is undergoing preventative chemotherapy to treat cancer.
Catherine, the Princess of Wales, announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently receiving chemotherapy.
Speculation about the princess’ welfare has been rife on social media after the prominent royal underwent abdominal surgery at a private London hospital in December.
In a video message released on Friday, she said, “This, of course, came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family”.
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment,” the princess added.
The princess, who is also still known as Kate Middleton, asked “time, space, and privacy” while she is treated for an unspecified type of cancer, which was discovered after her surgery.
The announcement of her condition comes as her father-in-law King Charles III continues his own course of treatment for cancer.
