Reese Witherspoon’s Draper James is draped in money.
The Oscar-winning actress’ clothing company acquired a PPP mortgage between $350,000 and $1 million, according to the online database. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Draper James employed 44 individuals.
The inflow of cash was accepted on April 11, 2020, just as the company got here beneath hearth for a dress giveaway gone wrong.
A rep for Draper James didn’t immediately return Page Six Type’s request for comment.
The model needed to thank academics for their tireless efforts through the pandemic and provided them an opportunity to win free clothes. Sadly, Draper James enormously underestimated how many academics would have an interest in the deal — one million entered — and couldn’t meet the demand, because it deliberate on making a gift of solely 250 clothes.
As an alternative, Draper James provided academics reductions between 20 and 30 %.
“Out of 535 academics on a social media web page on FB, not even one acquired a free @draperjames gown! What within the what??,” one individual tweeted. “All of us acquired codes for either 20-30% off codes. Can’t even afford the clothes with a reduction! Great advertising ploy!”
Web page Six Type later solely reported that Witherspoon donated to nonprofit DonorsChoose to help academics in three Southern cities following the Draper James flap.
